Structure of Secondary Education

The Western Australian high school system at WeTel World School covers:

  • Lower Secondary: Years 7–10
  • Senior Secondary: Years 11–12

Grade 7 to 10

Age Guidelines

Year 7 - Grade 7: Age 11–12

Year 8 - Grade 8: Age 12–13

Year 9 - Grade 9: Age 13–14

Year 10 - Grade 10: Age 14–15

Year 11 - Grade 11: Age 15–16

Year 12 - Grade 12: Age 16–18

Assessment & Reporting

Continuous assessment through:

  • Assignments, projects, class tests, presentations
  • Internal exams conducted annually


A–E Grading System

A = Excellent, B = Good

C = Satisfactory, D = Limited, E = Very Low

Promotion Policy

No failure or repetition from Years 7–10

Students are automatically promoted each year

Focus on learning progress rather than pass/fail

Year 12 - Grade 12: Age 16–18


Senior Secondary (Years 11–12)

Students select pathways based on career goals:

Course Types

• ATAR Courses (University pathway)

• General Courses (Career/Vocational pathway)

• Foundation Courses (Support pathway)

• VET Programs (Skill-based qualifications)



Units & Credit System

  • Each subject = 2 units per year
  • Students study approximately 6 subjects per year

Graduation Requirement

Minimum 20 units (Years 11–12 combined)

Must include:

4 units of English

At least one pair of Year 12 units

Assessment System (Years 11–12)

Internal Assessment

• Assignments, tests, projects, practicals

External Assessment (Year 12 Only)

• Conducted under School Curriculum and Standards Authority

• Primarily for ATAR courses
